27 February 2011

Greetings from the Big ‘D’.
We have had another great week of missionary service here in Dallas. There continues to be plenty to do – I have learned soooo much but still feel like I need to keep learning. I will never ‘get’ it all, I’m so grateful that we work with such wonderful and capable people as Donna and Julie that are never too far away to be able to ask a question or have them give their advice to people we serve. I remember months ago when I asked a man what type of job he was looking for and he said he was an actuary and I didn’t even know what one of those was, let alone help him find a job as one. But like most things, I’ve learned that there are principles involved and we can teach people the principles or strategies and they can apply them to what ever type of job they are seeking.
Elder Nelson and I have spent a huge chunk of time this week getting things prepared for when we leave. Elder Nelson knows things about working with the ‘company sign-ons’ that even the managers don’t know. This website was new when we came and they just had him get into it and figure it out. Between the two of us we have kept things going for the job postings also. Which companies are aggregated, which companies need to be sent in for aggregation, which companies do their own job searches, which ones we manually post the jobs for, which ones we receive emails regarding job postings etc. etc. So this week I’ve been creating an Excel spreadsheet (had never spent time with this before coming here – I was asking Dustin questions about it all the time) and between the two of us creating a document for this information to organized for someone else to take over when the time comes.
Speaking of that we just found out that the couple that is replacing the Phelps has accepted the assignment and will be here earlier than expected and will arrive on the 1st of April rather than the 12th. Sister Phelps has been having trouble with her shoulder and has quite a bit of pain so this will be good for them. We also found out the couple that was supposed to take our place has been reassigned and is going to Montana or Wyoming or some such place. I wonder what they will do?? With the new set of Senior Sister Missionaries here it won’t be too critical of a situation I’m sure.
Sister Gloria Lyle, who has been serving as a local service missionary, came to the end of her assigned time, she was going to extend and continue to serve, however her little granddaughter is in need of a babysitter – you know how those Grandma’s are!! She will just come in once a week now. We will really miss here for multiple reasons, she was super great at the front desk but more than that she has become a dear friend. We’re excited for her to be able to spend time with this little granddaughter though.
One evening this week we were able to meet Paul and Katy Leatham at Braum’s Ice Cream, have a little treat and catch up on their lives. They are such a fun, cute couple, we enjoy them for sure. We see them at church each week but we don’t always get to visit with them much.
We had a book club night over at the Morell’s this week. The book was the new book about Hoover/Boulder Dam. Jack led a great discussion, a fun time had by all. One evening we went with the Morell’s to a silent movie with live organ music. The movie was King of Kings by Cecil B DeMille, the director who did ‘The Ten Commandments.’ It was about the life of Christ, very enjoyable. I’ve never been to a silent movie with live organ music like that before.
On our P-day we went over to the Fort Worth Stock Yards and picked up some Texas memorabilia and watched the long-horn cattle drive down the street. We always enjoy that, an interesting place to be sure. We stopped by the Botanical Gardens while there, the daffodils and tulips are starting to bloom and are so pretty.
Wednesday evening piano classes in the Sunbeck Spanish Branch actually went quite well this past week. Most of the students actually practiced this week – hooray! I was getting a bit discouraged the week before due to the lack of practicing. Seems to go along with the territory. I sent an email to the Stake President yesterday updating him of the status as far as how many were participating, ages etc. Also letting him know when we would be leaving and asked if would like to call a person in the Stake to continue forward with the program. He said they would discuss it this morning in Presidency mtg and get back with me. It was interesting when I arrived last week for classes the Stake Primary President was entering the building at the same time. She expressed her appreciation for this opportunity that the Spanish Branch has to have learn piano. That was very nice to hear that from her.
It was also a busy week with quite a few candidates coming in. We are also helping the new sisters with learning the ins and outs of what we do. This last Friday being the last Friday of the month we had an early morning training meeting. We start at 7:30 am and they bring in some breakfast goodies to eat while we have our meeting. There will be another significant website update Monday night so we were shown some of the new changes that will be made. We met until about 10:00 in the conference room. As soon as we were finished the door opened and all these people came in to be helped. The new Sisters wondered if we had posted or announced that we would be opening later that morning but we hadn’t. That is just the way it goes when doing the Lord’s work, it always works out.
Saturday Elder Nelson and I were in the Center alone, everyone else had assignments outside the Center. There usually aren’t too many people come in on Saturdays so it was no problem. We had one man that we have been working with, I did the initial interview with him and Elder Nelson has also spent time with him also; he came into ring the bell and express appreciation for the help he had received from the staff at the Center. He brought his whole family, wife and 5 kids in with him too. He said they all went through those unemployed days together and they all wanted to thank us, they even baked some cookies for us. It’s always so nice when someone takes the time to say thanks. He had only been looking for a month, but it seemed like a long time to him.
Julie had given us permission to close the Center at noon so we could go to the temple with Carolyn Lohre. We met her a little more than a year ago at the Center while she was job seeking. She became active and attends the Dallas 6th Ward also so we were able to stay in touch with her. She invited us to go with her and we were so glad it worked out. There were two men that walked in at 11:30 so we each worked with one and did the fast track assistance. Actually they had called in earlier that morning to make sure that we were open on Saturdays and we told them that we would be closing early at noon. They both said they would be happy to come back another day and do more work, they were basically wondering what the services were I guess.
Gail flew in to visit Andy this weekend so they were able to meet us at the temple and go through the session with us. We picked them up for Church this morning and they had time to come over for dinner and visiting before Gail’s flight left this evening. It is always so wonderful to see family or someone from home. We have enjoyed and looked forward to these visits with Andy on weekends. So great to see Gail too!!

We are so grateful for this opportunity to serve as missionaries together. It’s been great to be involved in the same experiences and work together. Elder Nelson is an awesome missionary companion. He is always the go-to-guy when any of we missionaries have a computer question or an employer needs assistance. Which reminds me he had an employer walk in at 5 to 5 the other day, he was with a big company and they will be hiring 30 new people. Elder Nelson was happy to stay after and assist him. He is so good working with people fro all walks of life.
It’s hard to be away from home and family as new little ones come and as the challenges of life come to us but we know the Lord loves you and loves us. We know that he is blessing us all and strengthening you to meet the challenges of the day. We continue to put our trust in Him and know that He is mindful of us all and our needs. We pray that He will continue to keep us all in his loving and protecting care.

Had great fun having Andy and Gail today for meetings at the Dallas 6th and Dinner afterward.Gail had to be back in Utah tonight so it was a quick trip for her, fun for us!
On Saturday we attended the Dallas Temple
A member of the Dallas 6th was going through so it was a fun session.
Earlier in the day we went to Plano to a Mexican food place called fuzzys.
Then we went with Charlie and Carla to a Silent Movie with an Organ accompanist. It was an interesting experience.
The movie was a 1927 Cecil B Demille King of Kings
The Organ made it whole experience so wonderful.
I heard from two old High School pals, Greg & Marty who were in at a convention. What interesting times in Dallas.

20 February 2011

Elder Nelson and I were just trying to figure out it is that the week has gone by so quickly yet this past Monday seems like such along time ago. Just having so much fun I guess!
This has been a busy week, everyday this week, with the exception of Saturday was very, very busy with working personally with many candidates. Not many came in Saturday so we were able to work on a few of the other things that we need to keep caught up on.
Tuesday morning was the Resume workshop so Donna was teaching that, the Phelps don’t come in until noon because they take the late shift. Elder Nelson and I were really hopping to take care of all the phone calls and candidates that came in. Of course this is the day that Gloria doesn’t come in either. We made it though. Brother Linton, a WES from the Denton Stake, wanted some additional help with his calling – he came and went to the workshop then stayed on for a while and visited with Elder Nelson.
Wednesday was another very busy day, I was helping a lady but finally at 2:30 my eyes started doing the dots and I can’t read the letters any more. When that happens I just have to take a break and rest for a little while. I went to the apartment and had some lunch and took a little break and was ready to go again.
After 2 weeks of break due to snow and ice, we had piano class once again. I think everyone was there. As typical some are doing well and practicing but then there are those that come but haven’t done their practicing. I wish they would all take advantage of the opportunity, it gets hard when it gets down to the day to day discipline of it. Soon I will need to talk with some Stake leaders to see if they want to get others in the Stake to help and have the program continue once we leave.
For Valentines Day we went out to dinner with Will & Ellie Boesewetter. We went to the Texas Roadhouse, yummy. Will was baptized a year ago in March. They have been talking going to the temple and being sealed. We told them that we hoped that they could/would go before we leave in April. They have set a date for the first part of April so we’re pretty excited to go with them. At dinner Will asked Jack if he would be his escort, they have gotten to be pretty good friends this past few months.
Also Carolyn L. will be going to the temple for the first time this coming Saturday. After we first got here she came in to the Center job searching. We helped her frequently, then we found out that she was in the same Ward that we go to, Dallas 6th, but she hadn’t been to church in years. She decided to start going back to church and we enjoyed seeing her there and she often sat by us. She has become very active and involved in the Ward and it has been great to be her friend and see her learn and grow. She has invited us to attend with her this Saturday. We are going to have to do a little juggling because the schedule looks like we will be the only ones there on Saturday and we would need to leave a couple hours before closing to make it. We’ll see how it goes, but we sure hope it works out.
Thursday is our P-day but Elder Dahl had an appointment with a lady. Since he only comes in Mondays he makes other appointments through the week as needed, often at a more convenient location for them both. They set this up at a restaurant but he invited Elder Nelson to come along just so there’s no room for accusations or problems. So we stayed pretty close by. I did grocery shopping done and a hair cut before and after his appointment.
The days have been so pleasant that we have been able to go out to Elm Fork one evening and out to Lewisville Lake another and do some hiking and biking. It feels so good to get out and more around some! Nice to see something besides the inside of the Center and our apartment.
The new Sisters arrived this week. They have different apartments this time around. They find it just works better that way. Sister Gunter is from the Salt Lake area. Her husband past away 10 plus years ago so she is used to being independent and also has done a lot in the career world. She will assimilate rather quickly I think. Sister Ruby Burgess is from Wickenburg, Arizona. Her husband passed away less than a year ago. She is most comfortable driving a tractor and working on farm equipment. I’m afraid that she likes driving in the city about as well as I do. She is a very sweet lady and will have much to offer also but she will probably have more of an adjustment. She is so willing and anxious to serve.
We had a real treat today!!! Andy Luke is here in Dallas for 6 weeks doing flight training for Southwest Airlines. He is free on Sundays and of course would like to attend Church. We picked him up this morning for Church and then he came over to our apartment for dinner and visiting. We had a great time and enjoyed his company immensely. Great to hear how things are going back home. Jack taught the High Priest Priesthood lesson today on Service. I’m sure he did a great job but I guess Andy could tell you for sure. We hope this will work out for the weeks ahead too.
It was crazy last night we were winding down for the evening, I was at the computer and happened to look up at the Whitney calendar that hangs near by and saw that Andy’s birthday was Friday. Jack ran me down to Wal-mart and we picked up a cake, candles and some Blue Bell ice cream. It was fun to have a little birthday party for him today. Nothing fancy of course but he did get to blow out some candles.
I’ll wrap this up with some notes from the afternoon talk by Elder Ringwood at last weeks Zone Conference. From his comments it sounded like he was first a missionary in Korea and then a Mission President there several years ago. In the Korean scriptures there are three or four different words used for the one English word ‘compassion.’ He wondered at what the differences were so he went on a quest where he looked up every reference in the scriptures of compassion and compared them. He noticed that every time the word was used by the Savior, what followed was a miracle.
He was speaking to his missionaries one day and teaching this principle. He randomly used Matt 9: 36-38. After he read it he realized that he had made a mistake, he had picked the one time that a miracle did not follow. However, the Spirit quickly taught him that the missionaries sitting before him were miracles; they were the laborers of the harvest.
He talked about planning and preparation and its importance. This is a place where it is evident or where you can show your compassion for the people you are teaching. The Brother of Jared when building the boats to cross the sea were told specifically what to do each step of the way, until they got to the final stages and they had two problems, no air and no light. The first problem of no air was easily fixed but they still had the problem of no light. The Brother of Jared was not given the answer but was asked to come up with a solution. He compared this to the old missionary discussions where specific lessons were outline and to ‘Preach My gospel’ now where the principles are taught but the missionaries must prepare and decide the best way to teach according to the needs of each individual, of course relying on the Spirit for guidance.
As the Brother of Jared came up with the solution, it led to his receiving revelation and a vision of the eternities.
(Note: I see our situation being different in the fact that we seldom have anyone schedule an appointment but rather they just drop in so we rarely have that opportunity to specifically prepare. However, I notice that if I study something one evening, it seems like the next day I have an opportunity to use that very information. I’m not sure which way it works, if I’m led to the information or the person who needs the information is prompted to come in – a combination of both I presume.)
He discussed cause and effect, using example the in Alma 26. In verse 22 you see the cause and effect, WHAT you need to do so the right things will happen. Those important things are 1. Repent 2. Faith 3. Good Works 4. Pray
1. Repent and the spirit will be with you.
2. Faith, You’re here serving a mission, that’s faith
3. Good Works, be obedient, follow the rules, this includes exercise
4. Pray with out ceasing
He talked about Gifts, that Elder Bednar said that gifts are ‘given.’
1. Mysteries of God are the Plan of Salvation’ and the gospel of Jesus Christ. What is taught by the Spirit of God is revelation.
2. 2. Things revealed that have never been revealed, you can receive revelation that is applicable to whom you’re teaching. It comes to you when you plan and prepare.
3. Purpose to bring thousands of souls unto repentance. In Preach My Gospel are the tools, we ask, ‘What would you have me do?’ When you plan and prepare you will receive revelation. The key to revelation is planning. The reason for companion study is to study and to prepare for an investigator. Sometime it is just evidence that you WANT revelation, but the revelation may come later.

He promised that if you will plan and prepare and you will be blessed with revelation.
See Moroni 7
These things are revealed in heaven and given to prophets on earth. Our challenge is not the message, it is the messenger – how do we look, act and feel. We have the tools to be successful.
This is focused on the proselyting missionaries but it all applies to us also. We have the tools to be successful too.
We are enduring to the end, looking forward to returning home, but not too much. We remain focused on our work here. I have set some goals to accomplish in the next 2 months so I don’t just while away the hours, however we have been so busy I haven’t had time to work on them. BUT just in case we have some down time, I have some projects to do.
Once again we come to the close of our weekly report. We are grateful for this season to be in the full time service of our Heavenly Father and his children. May the Lord bless and keep you this week and always.
Our Love,
Grandpa & Grandma Mom & Dad, Jack & Gaye

Changing out the hard red wheat

The weather is really starting to warm up. If you look in the background you can see the L-train that travels to downtown Dallas every hour.Every 3 years, the wheat in the silo's is changed out.
The old Wheat goes to the feedlots in Kansas
There are 7 of these huge silo's that hold hard red wheat for disaster relief
The silos are located in the rear of the Storehouse
The wheat can be brought in on the railroad or in trucks
The backup generators are kept in good repair for the frozen meats in the freezers in case of power outages.
Such a wonderful organization to be a part of!

Feb.13th, 2011

13 February 2011

Temperatures are starting to warm here in North Texas, we have had only one snow/frozen day this past week. Wednesday early morning we had a storm roll in that gave us a few more inches of rain, snow and ice, followed by a very cold day of temperatures in the teens and low 20’s. That night was the coldest night in recorded history for February in this area, reaching 15 degrees, not as cold as some places for sure, but cold enough for us.
Thursday was significantly warmer, each day warming after that. Last week we had the big storm that ended up with four snow days. On that first day when the power went out and the temperature was 17 degrees outside I figured there was a possibility of the pipes freezing so I promptly got up and filled our pitchers and bucket full of water. This Friday evening since the temperature was warming and we had made it past the big freezes I went ahead and emptied our extra water containers. Guess what? Yup, Saturday morning we woke to NO water. We called the apartment ‘hot line’ to find out it was not just us but several of the buildings and that it was a city water problem. Fortunately I had a couple gallons of bottled water that I bought for emergency use after we first arrived. At least we were able to wash our face and brush our teeth before heading to the Center. By the time we got home that afternoon all pipes were working – hooray.
This past Monday we were so glad to get back to work after all the time off last week. We were able to catch up on phone messages, emails – people sending us job opportunities, asking us to review resumes, questions about workshops etc., etc. It was a fairly busy day but not over whelming. Tuesday however, was an extremely busy day. Making up for time closed the week before I suppose. We had a steady stream of people coming in, we were able to keep up though, it always works out. That’s the great thing about being involved in the Lord’s work. He has a way with that.
We had a special treat on this Tuesday. Gloria Lyle spends the day in Arlington and the Phelps don’t come in until noon (they take the late shift from 12:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesdays). I usually cover the front desk, greet people, answer phones etc. A young man came in and I started visiting with him and he said he was from Moapa!! It was Randy Nielson, Daisy May’s husband. I didn’t know him personally but Jack did, and had been on a deep sea fishing trip with him, among other things. He was here visiting a friend for a few days and doing some job searching. His friend recommended that he go to the Center for assistance. Elder Nelson was able to work with him; we gave him some job postings that he might be interested, we will certainly keep our eye open for more opportunities. Always so great to see someone from home and catch up on some of the happenings.
I worked with person a couple of days ago, as I made suggestions of things he could do to make his job search more effective he commented that he had been thinking of those things and it confirmed in his mind that these were really the things he needed to get out and do. I always say a prayer that I might be directed in the things that I say to people as I work with him so I was very grateful that he confirmed that these were things he was being prompted to do also.
Saturday a young man came in, he was a friend of the church brought in by a Branch President of one of the Spanish Branches. He had been incarcerated for 2 years and had got out of prison last December. He was able to go to work at his previous job but it is in construction, and we know how things are going there. He is not able to work very many hours and needs more to support his little family. As he told me about his experiences, he frequently would get tears in his eyes as he mentioned the past mistakes he had made. I felt impressed to tell him to remember the positive qualities and skills that he has; to look to the future with new hope, be positive and go forward to build a new life. We talked about body language, a firm handshake and looking people in the eye, always being truthful but recommitting himself to going forward in a new way. He had some stolen goods at his residence. When the person who stole the goods got caught, he told the police where the goods were, so this person was also convicted of burglary. He was put on probation but when he couldn’t keep up with the fees he had to spend 2 years in prison. Now it is very hard for him to find a job. There are some possibilities and places are ‘better to look for than others so we discussed that too.
The real treat of the week was being invited to attend the Texas Dallas Mission Zone Conference. It was held out in Frisco. Elder and Sister Ringwood of the Seventy was visiting the mission and spoke to the missionaries. This is the only Zone Conference we have been invited to and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It was just the boost for us to carry on for our two remaining months.
It was great to sing ‘Called to Serve’ and ‘The Army of Helaman’ with about 75 other missionaries, it’s so powerful. They all stood and recited D & C Section 4 also. Sister Smith spoke first and gave us some information about body language and what you are communicating this way. It was very interesting and helpful not only for the missionaries teaching the gospel but also for us at the Employment Center. This is one of the things we talk with people about in interviewing skills. President Smith talked about finding people and being more effective. We don’t have to worry about ‘finding’ people, they come to us or sign on to the website and we contact that way. Certainly I can work at being more effective, being more committed and applying myself.
Sister Ringwood spoke, she is the daughter of Elder Russell M. Nelson. She talked about having the spirit with us, we have been called to serve with divine power; the things we can do to qualify us for the work as found in Preach My Gospel; faith to go out and do; act on the promptings we receive; magnifying our calling.
Elder Ringwood spoke both before and after lunch. He feels like 1 Nephi Chapters 1 – 6 describe a mission. First Nephi is taught the gospel by his parents. 2. The call comes – to go to the wilderness. He was obedient and went, he left behind everything, all of his worldly possessions. He cried to the Lord to know the truth, once he has this knowledge he preached to his brothers; some listened but some didn’t, this sent him back to the Lord. He learned that if you keep the rules you prosper. Some murmured and complained and said it was too hard but Nephi said ‘I will go and do….. for I know the Lord will prepare a way..’ Reminding us that we are not here to fail! Some of the brothers wanted to go home but Nephi said we won’t go home. In I Nephi 4:2 we see that Nephi expected miracles like Moses experienced. Be faithful, the Lord will prepare the way. Nephi was led by the spirit, not knowing before hand what he would do. The mothers worry and say ‘Are you sure this was a good idea?’ But Lehi knows they are blessed and the Lord will deliver her sons. They were sent to the land of Promise, where they were suppose to be, here on your mission you learn how to live the rest of your life. Important to endure to the end.
He talked about when missionaries return home and people ask them if they are adjusting. He emphatically says – DON’T go home and adjust, don’t change when you get home. You have just spent two years learning how to live the rest of your life, don’t change! You are building a foundation, build on that foundation. Go home a build a mansion on the foundation you’ve built here in the mission field.
He then discussed 2 Kings 4:3-37. This is the story about Elisha and a woman whose son died. He uses the term 3 times through these verses ‘it fell on a day.’ He points out this is very different than saying ‘and it came to pass.’ ‘It fell on a day’ indicates that the events were orchestrated by the Lord. Those experiences that happen, when some time we say, I happened to be in this place or maybe we think that something was coincidence when in reality we could say ‘it fell on a day’.
He taught about three stages of missionary work.
1. Going through the motions
He mentioned that it was okay to homesick (what a relief to know this!) everyone does it, talk about it, tell your companion about it, if you talk about it and don’t keep it bottled up it will go away. You get out of stage 1 by feeling the spirit.
2. Sacrifice and Service
Open your heart to feel the spirit. The best way to feel the spirit is to teach and testify. This is when YOU feel the spirit, the person who is testifying. I had some feelings about these comments. It takes faith to do this I believe especially when your testimony is young and new. I realized that I have learned some things about faith serving in the capacity that we have been called in. I feel like I have many, many years experience and knowledge about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. But I can realize the ‘faith’ that it has taken to teach principles and concepts that I really have not had much experience in. My knowledge has increased as I have studied and taught and learn from those I have talked with. I have always felt it a very special and needful experience when others have told me about what has proved successful in their job search, it gives me confidence in teaching those principles and ideas. It has also been a great help when I’ve had a chance to talk to employers and learn what they are looking for, what things are most impressive to them. So this was eye opening to me in how we grow in faith.
He discussed Mark 10:17 when the man asked Jesus what he should do to inherit eternal life. The man came running to him and kneeled before the Master, he was respectful and anxious, he was already keeping the commandments and sacrifice, he as obedient and faithful and Jesus loved him. Jesus said to go and sell all and take up the cross. We know the story that the man was unable to do this. Which brings us to the 3rd stage –
3. Consecrated Missionaries.
We have covenanted that we will give everything to building up the kingdom of God. How do you become consecrated? He discussed Orderville, Utah as they tried to live the United Order, in the end it came down to a teenager and a pair of levis. He had some fun with this and a missionary who was from Orderville, he helped to tell the story, then suggested if you could move from Orderville to Enoch, a few miles away, you would be well on your way.
We find pockets of places in the scriptures were we see the Law of Consecration being lived, as found in 4 Nephi, in Acts after the resurrection. They achieved the condition where there was no poor among them, they lived in love and peace and there was no contention. As missionaries this is the closest we will come to living the Law of Consecration. Each missionary receives the same amount of money each month (young Elders & Sisters that is), it doesn’t matter where you come from, all dress the same – a mission is a great equalizer. So how do you become a consecrated missionary? What do you think about when you’re not required to think about missionary work? He encouraged us all to yield our whole hearts to God for these 18 months or 2 years. Helaman 3:35 talks about becoming sanctified, which is being holy and pure. Then we can be led by the Spirit and we will be able to say ‘It fell on a day.’ We will be able to say ‘this was so worth it,’ not especially easy, but worth it.
When you’re consecrated he will bless you. If you’ve helped to get someone to baptism, you have changed the course of many waters. (As did Moses, see Moses 1. He was promised that he would be made stronger than many waters long before he needed to to it.)
It was really great to be able to listen and learn from a General Authority in this setting, very inspirational. Maybe next week I will make some notes on the talk after lunch, it is much shorter.
Following this we went over to the Dallas Temple and did a session. We were on the 4:00 session, which only had six people attending. This is the shift that Duane and Elaina Bryner work on so we saw both of them several times throughout the evening. We have enjoyed our friendship with them.
The speaker in church today told the story that President Eyring has given before about the Muddy mission. After leaving the Muddy Mission many of those people went to Orderville to live the United Order. As mentioned earlier it was successful for a time, one of the reasons was because the people had come from such harsh conditions and had nothing. Of course later worldly conditions and pride crept in and it failed.
We are expecting two new sister missionaries this week, replacing the two that were moved to the Salt Lake area several months ago. There has been a lot of activity trying to get two apartments furnished and kitchen ready. The sisters will each have their own apartment. One sister is expected to arrive tomorrow and the other on Wednesday. So training will begin again. I don’t know how our managers keep up with all of missionaries coming and going and all the training that goes along with it. Julie has also been notified that two sets of couples have been identified to replace the Phelps and us. The Phelps leave two weeks before we do.
The papers this week have had articles about the state budget, or the lack there of. Texas only meets every two years so now they have to make some cuts to balance the budget. It is expected that thousands of teachers will be laid off next year. Also Amazon has a big center here and they are having some big disagreements with taxes and will be closing up shop here and moving elsewhere. That will be a few hundred more job loses if not thousands. So I suppose the Center will continue to keep busy.
We send our love to all of you. We’re grateful this opportunity of service, we are learning and experiencing so much.
We pray that the Lord will continue to bless us and strengthen us all. Thank you for your sustaining love and prayers. We continue to trust in the Lord and His ways.
Our Love,

Zone Conference Feb.10th 2011

Michael T. Ringwood of the First Quorum of the Seventy"We feel it is an honor to serve the Lord and do what He wants us to do," said Elder Ringwood. "It is not always easy, but it is best. Heavenly Father knows what is best."

Sister Nelson and I had a wonderful day attending the Frisco Zone Conference and visiting with all the young Elders and Sisters of the Texas Dallas Mission
Sister Nelson and Sister Fernal
The Frisco Meeting house for 3 of the wards in the Texas Frisco Stake.
We all stood and sang "Called to Serve" President & Sister Batchelor told us before we left to get ready to sing it loud and sing it often! He was prophetic on both accounts.
Elder William's discusses the Car Fleet and the fine points of safe driving.
President Barry Smith and Michael T. Ringwood.
Michael's wife Rosalie is the eighth daughter of Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve.
They were married Dec. 27, 1982, in the Jordan River Utah Temple. Sister Ringwood gave us a wonderful talk about planning and staying strong and working hard.

Zone Conference is always good to help lift your spirits and keep you focused on the work here in Dallas Texas
