Fort Richardson - Mineral Wells Texas

A visit to Fort Richardson located northwest of Fort Worth in Jack County, contains 454.16 acres. The property was acquired in 1968 from the City of Jacksboro and was opened to the public the same year. Fort Richardson was named in honor of General Israel B. Richardson, who died in the Battle of Antietam during the Civil War.
We met a great Texas Historian at the visitor center

The fort was the northernmost of a line of Federal Forts established after the Civil War. The soldiers arrived in Jacksboro in 1866 with orders to establish a fort at Buffalo Springs, 20 miles north of Jacksboro
This one looked like a possible fit

Sister Nelson offered to play the music at the Service

It was a lot of walking but a great site to visit

The grounds Keeper showed us what he ran across with the mower, He had 8 rattles
This Texas Country is great. Oil wells with longhorns grazing around them and lots of windmills.

The next stop was Clark Gardens Botanical Park in Mineral Wells Tx

Surrounded by native woodlands and tucked away down a country road between Weatherford and Mineral Wells, is the most amazing gardens I have ever visited .
We could have spend a couple of days here Over 1400 named iris - peak mid April to early May including: Bearded Iris, Dutch Iris, Louisiana Iris, Spuria and Japanese Iris. Ferns including: Japanese Painted Fern, Autumn Fern, Southern Wood Fern and Holly Fern. Scabiosa (Pincushion Flower) Torch Lilies including Red Hot Poker Echinacea Cactus YuccaOver 600 varieties of Daylilies - begin mid to late May Over 120 varieties of Cannas - begin in late June

The gardens had many fountains and ponds, lots of Crape Myrtles, Vitex, Zinnias, Water Lilies. Lots of Peacocks, swans and geese.

35 wonderful acres of beautiful gardens

One section of the gardens was dedicated to model trains that ran complete with the sounds.

We were absolutely shocked by the entire facility, the grounds are truly beautiful and everything was very well manicured. Clark Gardens is absolutely breathtaking. When we first entered at the Chanel garden, we were completely blown away by its exquisite beauty and design. As I walked along the path, I was left speechless by each new eye full of lush greenery. We hope to return!
